Fix It or Feel It | Jason Kreidman

Your wife is struggling, and everything in you wants to solve it. That instinct is the problem. Jason Kreidman, opening Front Row Dads’ New Dad Week, says the single biggest game changer in how he parents and how he loves his wife isn’t a tactic at all. It’s empathy. And it comes down to four words most new dads never think to ask: do you want me to fix it, or feel it?

You’re not the only one who doesn’t get it

Before anything tactical, Jason starts with reassurance: every new dad quietly believes he’s the only one who doesn’t get it. Every single one of them. That belief is what keeps guys from asking for help or admitting they’re overwhelmed, and it’s rarely true. You’re not doing it wrong. You’re doing it new.

Empathy is the skill, not tactics

Jason calls empathy the number one thing that changed how he shows up, both as a father and as a husband. Not a system, not a checklist. The ability to sit with what someone else is feeling without immediately trying to change it. For a lot of men, that’s a harder skill to build than almost anything tactical, because it means resisting the urge to act.

“Do you want me to fix it, or feel it?”

This is the line Jason says will save you a hundred fights:

“Do you want me to fix it, or feel it?”

Ask instead of guessing. Most men default to fixing because it feels like doing something, but a lot of the time the fix isn’t wanted, presence is. Asking the question directly, and actually respecting the answer, replaces a guessing game that neither of you wins.

The neighbor rule

Jason’s other reframe is what he calls the neighbor rule: when someone nearby is going through a hard time, you don’t ask what kind of food they’d like. You just bring food. The same logic applies at home. “What can I do?” often just adds one more decision to an already overloaded plate. Noticing what needs doing, and doing it, meets your wife’s needs at a higher level than asking permission to help.

More About Front Row Dads

Connect with us @ FrontRowDad.com & Instagram.

FRD is solving a huge problem for dads. Our culture has turned “Dad” into a joke. Go ahead, google Dad and you’ll find Dad Bod, Dad Jokes, Dad Weed, etc. Culturally, it’s a Homer Simpson mentality, and it’s BS.

Our community is built for solid men. Men with range. Those who are badass, and know there’s still more to learn, together.

Most guys find it hard to find “their crew.” Finding other committed men who are successful in life and want to put family first – these guys are rare. Is this you?

In FRD, hundreds of men from all over the world show up for each other, to share resources and raise the bar of fatherhood (our core values.)

If you’re reading this, you want to grow.  Podcasts are great, but guys, when you’re ready to stop just listening to content and want to JOIN the conversations, the FRD brotherhood is ready for you.
